Lonestar Data Holdings says it has signed a deal worth up to $6 million with Polish startup Ares Shield to protect its planned space-based data-center satellites. Ares Shield’s module combines sensors, AI analytics and a high-power microwave emitter designed to detect, classify and disable threatening satellites without creating debris. The initial agreement covers protection for three satellites, with first deliveries expected in 2028 or 2029 as Lonestar expands its StarVault storage network in orbit. Ares Shield’s CEO argues that rising rendezvous and proximity operations by state actors are driving demand for active satellite defense systems.
