Monkeypox is a viral disease that can be deadly, but it is not as contagious as COVID-19. The current outbreak in Africa is caused by a strain of the virus that is more deadly than previous strains, but it is still not clear how deadly it is. There are two vaccines that are effective against monkeypox, but they are not widely available in Africa. The African Centres for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 10 million doses of vaccine are needed to rein in the outbreak.
