Indian and Chinese pharmaceutical companies are developing cheaper versions of popular new weight-loss drugs, such as Wegovy. The drugs work by mimicking a naturally occurring hormone called glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). GLP-1 not only regulates blood sugar levels, but also binds to receptors in the brain that control appetite and receptors in the gut that slow digestion and contribute to a feeling of being full.
