Researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have developed a groundbreaking nanodroplet platform for early-phase drug discovery, capable of testing thousands of therapeutic agents on a single chip. This innovative approach drastically reduces the time and resources required for drug development by using extremely miniaturized nanodroplets, each containing only 300 cells. The platform integrates synthesis, testing, and characterization, making high-throughput drug discovery more accessible to academic labs and smaller biotech companies. The researchers successfully synthesized and tested various potential MEK inhibitors, identifying 46 new compounds with similar efficacy to existing drugs, showcasing the platform's potential to accelerate the discovery of urgently needed new drugs.
