Apple said it is adding a feature called Apple Reference Image for photos taken with the iPhone 18 Pro. The system captures signed sensor data and uses Apple’s Private Cloud Compute to generate an unalterable reference image visible in the Photos app. Users can compare that reference version with other copies of an image to determine whether edits have been made. Apple also said it will support the SynthID standard and provide APIs so other apps can use the feature.
