A study published in The BMJ found that using a P2Y12 inhibitor anti-clotting drug in patients with coronary artery disease is linked to lower rates of cardiovascular death, heart attack, and stroke compared to traditional aspirin. The research analyzed data from five clinical trials involving over 16,000 patients, revealing a 23% lower risk of adverse cardiovascular events with P2Y12 inhibitors. The study showed no significant increase in major bleeding with the inhibitor. Researchers suggest more research is needed to understand the long-term effects.
