President Trump has signed an executive order to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement. The move comes just after the planet experienced its first year on record in which the average global temperature exceeded 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above the preindustrial period. Under the landmark 2015 Paris climate accord, countries agreed to try to limit warming to under 1.5 degrees C and “well below” two degrees C (3.6 degrees F).
