A recent study published in Translational Psychiatry, using data from the UK Biobank, explored the connection between sleep patterns and the risk of hospitalization for infections. Researchers found that individuals who reported sleeping well for an average of 7-8 hours per night had a decreased risk of hospitalization due to infections, suggesting a potential link between healthy sleep and improved health. The study highlights the importance of sleep as a modifiable risk factor for infectious diseases, with the potential to inform new health programs aimed at preventing serious infections by improving sleep patterns. Adhering to a healthy sleep pattern was associated with a decreased risk of hospitalization for infections, especially for individuals under 65 years of age and females.
