- •A 12-passenger seaglider has begun sea trials in Rhode Island.
- •The vehicle can transition between floating and flying using only electric power.
- •It is the largest battery-powered flying machine in the world.
A 12-passenger seaglider that is part boat and part aircraft harnesses Cold War-era technology to fly just above the waves using only electric power. The tests are a prelude to the vehicle's first crewed flights, scheduled for later this year, which would make it the largest battery-powered flying machine in the world – albeit one that must remain just above the water's surface.
