How ‘Qudits’ Could Boost Quantum Computing

Qudits are multi-dimensional cousins of qubits, and could make quantum computers more efficient and less prone to error. Researchers have used qutrits and ququints to simulate how high-energy quantum particles interact through an electromagnetic field. In the future, such simulations could help to explain how quarks stick together to form protons, or how neutrinos collide with one another in the intense environment of a supernova explosion.
