A new Cochrane review, a gold-standard analysis of medical interventions, found that drugs targeting beta-amyloid proteins for Alzheimer's disease have no meaningful clinical effect. These drugs, once hailed as potential breakthroughs, were designed to eliminate plaques in the brain associated with Alzheimer's. The review included 17 clinical trials and concluded that the drugs do not offer benefits and may increase risks. Researchers now recommend exploring other avenues of research, such as the role of inflammation.
