On Friday morning, a faulty update from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike caused a global tech disaster that brought down major airlines, banks, and hospitals. Microsoft could have prevented this by locking down Windows kernel access, but is being prevented from doing so by regulatory pressures and pushback from security vendors.
