- •A new study suggests that people who do not meet the World Health Organization's (WHO) guidelines on waist size face an 11% increased risk of cancer, even if they get the recommended levels of exercise.
- •The WHO recommends a waist circumference of less than 88cm (35 inches) for women and 102cm (40 inches) for men.
- •The study also noted that in cases where both these factors are not met—when people have large waistlines and are physically inactive, there was a 15% increased risk of cancer.
New research suggests that people with a larger waist circumference are at a higher risk of cancer, even if they exercise regularly. The study also found that simply having a slimmer waistline did not completely reduce cancer risk.
