A recent study published in Frontiers in Veterinary Science investigated the effectiveness of a new US standard for training and certifying explosive detection dogs. Researchers tested 56 canine/handler teams in both standard assessments and real-world scenarios, finding a correlation between performance in both settings. While the assessments proved challenging, the study validated the standard's ability to predict real-world performance. The study also highlighted challenges, such as limited access to training materials, and found variability in performance based on region and explosive type.
